Heroes of Sovngarde - Skyrim by IceDragonhawk Heroes of Sovngarde - Skyrim by IceDragonhawk
I tell you something, I'm loving drawing Skyrim stuff right now. Enjoy another offering of fan art from the lands of Tamriel... or rather, the Asgard of the Nordic folk.

Sovngarde is probably the single most beautiful place I've ever visited in a video game, so it only made sense to draw the penultimate event that takes place there. None other than the final confrontation between the World Eater, the 3 heroes, and Rhalas Dovahkiin.

This is going to be difficult to top. *ponders*

The best part of this piece of artwork would be the background. The bright colors in the backdrop give a sharp contrast against the dragon giving it a darker and even down right nefarious look that would have been achieved even if the dragon wasn't roaring. I would also like to comment that you did well with the general light around the dragon to prove glare and a good layout of the shading done on the people.

However, I would have left the tower in the background out as the bright lights draw away from the main focus, it would have been preferable to put a rock or some other dark feature there as it stands out a little to much.

The wing's could have used more work, by work I mean that it looks as if you put the same scribble over each wing and merely flipped it. 2 in from the outside on both sides there is the same exact circular mark, 3rd in there is the same exact thick lines etc.

The people themselves, who are a supporting role in this picture are well done. It is not the detail that makes them well done but the lack there of. As the bright fore-light casts a shadow that has to be respected and is done so by the dark black that obscures any detail. I also noted that their armor and body shape seem to be proportional and well done if not thought out.

Overall this piece does very well in the respect that it shows the action and drama of the event clearly and even imbues it with a sense of chaos and is incredibly striking. However, there is in most cases only so much originality to be had when working with a piece of fanart and as I mentioned the wings were a bit of a let down, judging from everything else you clearly have the talent to do more.

The depiction of the star filled skies is absolutely beautiful as it contrasts with the dark shadows of the heroes and Alduin. But what I love the most is just the epic impact that this conjures up especially when you're listening to the Sovngarde theme.

Sovngarde pretty much harkens back to the Norse mythology of Valhalla as the great heroes of man gather in the afterlife to prepare for the ultimate battle with the invincible Giants. Even though it is prophesied that we shall inevitably lose that great war, we will never forget our companions as we sing, drink and die in each others arms in the greatest battle of our lives. As we draw blade, axe, bow, and hammer, smash our shields together and cheer for every heroes as we prepare to march. May it be dragon, serpent, wolf, bear or any other, we shall not retreat. Draw your weapons, brave men and women of Skyrim! Do not fear our foes! Shout them down with our voices!

Victory or Sovngarde!!!

Sorry got carried away...

Still a wonderful picture.

When I first saw Sovngarde, I found it breathtaking and thought, "This is what Valhalla should be." The final battle between the heroes and Dragonborn against Alduin also captures the Norse theme of man defeating the unknown and dangerous beasts of the Baltic. Just a wonderful image
