Arisanda Market

Description

Depending on your perspective, the market can be seen as the centre-point of the city. Unless closed due to extreme weather, almost anything anyone needs can found within, any day of the week, all year around. Perishables, attire, hardware, furnishings, entertainment, gadgets, souvenirs; someone somewhere has something for you, and if they don't, regular trade routes ensures a frequent resupply. The building itself is the oldest in the city. Built directly on the site of the old market pond, the structure was the first to be be re-constructed. The trading that it brought back in helped to rebuild the rest of the city.

I'm finally back! Thank the summer for my quite lengthy art drought, the heat doesn't really do any favours for my creativity or motivation (Hey, I called myself 'Ice' for a reason after all). I've been doing tiny bits and pieces for other peeps to occupy myself with lately, and I haven't had much drive to do my own pictures. Any I did have went into straight into this. What you're looking at here is probably 2-3 months of on-and-off work. So think of it as big summer project piece if you wish.

I honestly didn't think I could pull it off when I started. It was such a huge leap up from my last one. Ever since I started on VC, I've always wanted a scene from INSIDE the main city. I've always done plenty from outside the city, or above the city, or just in a vague corner of the city, but never properly inside it; from a dragons-eye perspective of it. But it's alway been above my ability to do so. It's taken me until now to even define the actual architecture/layout/style of the place for starters. For me the biggest challenge was making the city actually feel like, y'know, a city, not just a ghost town with only 4 inhabitants. That means dragons, lots of dragons*, all individually doing individual things, like not being copy-pasted for example. But, I think I've nailed it. And some, after choosing the busiest possible location I could- and thinking I was completely insane for even attempting it- I think I can safely say mission accomplished. :D

*Disclaimer: Due to the rather random nature of the citizens design and the sheer number of variations, some of them may resemble characters of other dragon artists. This is purely coincedental and uninentional.

I love this. It fills the void in my heart for architecture and public spaces by dragons, for dragons.
